Fisher Foundation supports Motor Sport safety with Grant Awards!
The Fisher Foundation recently announced awards totalling approximately £14,000 towards 6 rally safety initiatives in Ireland. The awards include contributions towards equipment and defibrillators and the sponsorship of Motor sport Ireland Safety Committees training programme.
'We are delighted to be in a position to support the work of the 6 organisations with Fisher Foundation grants, the organisations make an invaluable contribution to Motor Sport Safety in their attendance and participation in events across Ireland and it's fantastic to be in a position to support their work,' outlined Ivan Fisher from the Fisher Foundation.
The six organisations receiving financial support include the Motorsport Ireland Safety Committee, which has been funded by the Foundation to organise a First Responder training course targeted at rally safety crews operating in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The course will be held later this year. Fergal Henehan co-ordinator of the committees work thanked the Foundation for their support 'The Fisher Foundations support is so important as it provides us with the resources to begin to implement the safety committees ambitious training programme. Really it is a terrific boost for everyone'.
Support was also provided to support the cost of equipping Mark Heeson's rescue vehicle through Motorsport Ireland with funding given towards the cost of medical supplies and equipment. Austin Fraser outlined the particular importance of this project, 'The Foundation is accurately aware of the important work of the Rally Safety Crews and the need to support new crews where possible. Hence, the award given to assist the start up costs of a new crew is very important.'
Four organisations received financial support towards the costs of new defibrillators including Henderson Rescue, Galway Bay Rally Rescue Unit, Ballynahinch Motorsports Marshals Club and British Motorsports Marshals Club.
This year the Foundation focussed its resources on supporting clubs and organisations specialising in rally safety. The decision to concentrate solely on this area followed a major review of the work of the Foundation since it was established in 2002. This announcement brings to over £200,000 the figure awarded by the Fisher Foundation since it was established seven years ago. Awards have been made in two areas - motor sport safety initiatives and voluntary work overseas.

Fisher Foundation Young Driver Award for 2008 Announced!
The 6th annual recipient of the Fisher Foundation Young Driver Safety Award has been announced, the winner this year is Martin McCormack from Draperstown. The Fisher Foundation award is valued at £7,500 and is a real boost for the coming year for Martin and comes as an excellent early birthday present for young driver who turns 22 next week.
Martin clearly has a lot of potential, with his efforts and performances over the last twelve months especially in the historic rally events. The award was presented by Gladys Fisher at the Tarmac Rally Organisers Association Championship Awards in Belfast.
'We are delighted to present Martin with the Fisher Foundation Young Driver Award, he has great ability, this combined with his enthusiasm and plans for next year really impressed the trustees outlined Ivan Fisher from the Fisher Foundation.
"Once again it was a very difficult decision, we were tremendously impressed with the quality and interest from the candidates short listed for the award", explained Austin Frazer Chairman of the interview panel, "Martins commitment, his plans for 2008, and the energy he brings was a winning combination".
The Young Driver Safety Award is valued at over £7,500 and covers travel costs, accommodation and training costs for Martin.
Martin was overjoyed to hear he had been successful "I feel extremely honoured that the Fisher Foundation has awarded me the Young Driver Award for 2008, to be presented with this award means a great deal and will help me immensely as I prepare for 2008".
This announcement brings to over £160,000 the figure awarded by the Fisher Foundation since it was established six years ago. Awards have been made in two areas - motor sport safety initiatives and voluntary work overseas.

FISHER FOUNDATION SUPPPORTS VOLUNTARY WORK OVERSEAS THIS SUMMER
The Fisher Foundation recently held a special presentation event presenting grant awards to seven organisations including The Church Missionary Society, Trocaire, Leprosy Mission Ireland, Youth for Christ, Niall Mellon Township Trust, Livability and the Jengana Mission.
The awards event held in Fermanagh House in Enniskillen was attended by representatives from each of the organisations receiving grant awards along with representatives from the Fisher Foundation and the Fermanagh Trust.
Ernie Fisher, the Chairman of the Fisher Foundation, was delighted the Foundation was able to support so many good causes and volunteers working overseas; 'The Fisher Foundation was established with the overall aim of providing much needed financial resources to help organisations and volunteers who give of their time to assist so many needy projects across the world. We received applications from some excellent projects and had to make difficult decisions, hence its great the Foundation is in a position to support such a range of excellent work taking place across the world'.
'This years grants will support 7 organisations work, a number of the projects involving people from in and around Fermanagh and from further afield, and they all will make a major contribution to work in 7 countries. It is a privilege for the Fisher Foundation to be able to support these efforts'.
Fr Brian D'Arcy a member of the Fisher Foundation and an advisor to the overseas division of the Foundations work, along with Rev Paul Hoey congratulated the award recipients and wished them every success in their endeavours, 'We are committed to helping voluntary work overseas and your projects make that possible. We wish you all every success in your work and congratulate you on your endeavors'.
Maggie Muldoon from Livability thanked the Foundation for its support; 'As a locally based charity which supports disability projects across Asia, it means so much for our work to be valued and supported at home here in Fermanagh. The Fisher Foundation award will be invaluable in helping in our work organising and contributing to the work in all aspects of spinal cord injury management, treatment, rehabilitation and community integration in Asia'.
Lauri McCusker, Director of The Fermanagh Trust, which manages and administers the Fisher Foundations work congratulated all of the award recipients and wished all the projects every success in the coming year. Lauri also thanked the members of the Foundation especially Rev Paul Hoey and Fr Brian D'arcy who played a leading role in the overseas awards on behalf of the Foundation.
